Yaesu
Yaesu FTM-300DR
A polished, warranty-backed Fusion mobile for operators already in or actively entering the Yaesu ecosystem; less compelling for operators in areas without active Fusion infrastructure.
Decision helper
Is this mobile radio right for you?
Yes, if you're…
- ✓Operators in areas with active System Fusion repeaters or Wires-X nodes
- ✓Anyone who wants simultaneous dual-band monitoring in a single-head mobile unit
- ✓APRS users who need 9600 bps packet support for faster position reporting
- ✓Operators who value a long manufacturer warranty on installed vehicle equipment
Skip it, if you're…
- ✕Operators whose local digital infrastructure runs DMR or D-STAR rather than Fusion
- ✕Those who rely on CHIRP for batch programming across their radio fleet
- ✕Budget-focused buyers for whom the Fusion premium does not match local network density
The good and the bad
What we like
- True simultaneous dual-band receive across all VHF and UHF band combinations
- Built-in GPS and APRS at both 1200 and 9600 bps
- Bluetooth audio for hands-free in-vehicle operation
- Three-year Yaesu manufacturer warranty
- MBAG automatic memory channel band grouping simplifies busy repeater lists
What we don't
- C4FM Fusion is a Yaesu proprietary digital standard with no interoperability with DMR or D-STAR
- Not compatible with CHIRP; requires Yaesu software or RT Systems for programming
- Utility depends heavily on local Fusion repeater and Wires-X activity

Overview
The FTM-300DR occupies the premium tier of Yaesu's mobile lineup without quite reaching flagship complexity. It runs 50 watts on both VHF and UHF, operates on Yaesu's C4FM System Fusion digital mode alongside standard analog FM, and handles APRS at both 1200 and 9600 bps with GPS built in. The integrated Bluetooth allows wireless audio for hands-free use in the vehicle without an external adapter.
The standout technical feature is true simultaneous dual-band receive, covering every combination: VHF plus VHF, UHF plus UHF, VHF plus UHF, and UHF plus VHF. Yaesu's MBAG automatic memory channel band grouping keeps frequency management orderly for operators who maintain a lot of repeater memories. The three-year manufacturer warranty is longer than most competitors offer and matters when the radio is mounted in a vehicle where vibration and heat cycles are real factors.
The honest caveat is ecosystem lock-in. Fusion is a Yaesu proprietary standard; it does not interoperate with DMR, D-STAR, or other digital modes. If the repeaters in your area are active Fusion nodes or Wires-X rooms, this radio earns its price. If they are not, you are buying a capable analog FM mobile with digital capability you may rarely use. Programming requires Yaesu's own software or an RT Systems cable; CHIRP is not an option here.
