- ✓APRS enthusiasts who want GPS and digipeating from a single unit
- ✓Operators who regularly work Brandmeister or MARC talkgroups from the vehicle
- ✓Tri-band users who need 1.25-meter coverage alongside VHF and UHF
Skip it, if you're…

- ✕Operators whose workflow depends on CHIRP for programming
- ✕Analog-only operators who have no need for DMR functionality
The good and the bad
What we like
- Tri-band coverage (VHF / 1.25m / UHF) in a single mobile transceiver
- 50-watt output across all three bands
- DMR Tier II with full Brandmeister and MARC compatibility
- Integrated GPS and APRS without requiring an external TNC
- Bluetooth audio enables hands-free operation without a separate adapter
What we don't
- DMR codeplug configuration is a genuine learning curve requiring hours of setup
- Not compatible with CHIRP; requires AnyTone's own CPS software
- Premium price positions it above mid-range alternatives that cover more common use cases

Overview
The AT-D578UVIII PLUS is built for the digitally serious vehicle operator who wants every major capability in a single head unit: DMR Tier II across VHF, 1.25-meter, and UHF simultaneously, APRS with integrated GPS, Bluetooth audio for hands-free operation, and a loud built-in speaker that holds its own in road noise. At 50 watts, it sits at the top of what you would expect from a mobile transceiver in this class, and it is the most feature-dense radio in our mobile lineup by a meaningful margin.
That capability comes with a real cost beyond the premium price tag. AnyTone's CPS software is the only supported programming path; CHIRP has no support here. More importantly, setting up a DMR codeplug requires understanding talkgroups, time slots, and color codes before the digital side of the radio becomes useful. AnyTone ships training course material with the radio to help, but expect several hours of work before your first DMR contact, not several minutes.
For an operator already comfortable with DMR fundamentals, or one committed to learning them, the AT-D578UVIII PLUS is difficult to beat at its price tier. It demands respect from the user; in return it delivers a genuinely complete tri-band DMR and APRS station for the vehicle.
