The KT-8900D is QYT's second-generation update to the original KT-8900, sharing its chassis family with the KT-7900D. It adds a larger LCD, a cooling fan and an external speaker jack, and output is rated asymmetrically: 25 watts on VHF, 20 on UHF, rather than a flat number on both bands. Quad standby carries over from the KT-8900, and a cable supporting CHIRP or the manufacturer's own software ships in the box.
