The AT-D890UV is aimed at licensed operators who want a single handheld capable of bridging analog repeater work with DMR digital operation, particularly those involved in ARES nets or coordinated emergency communications groups. It sits in a crowded mid-range bracket alongside established competitors, so the buying decision comes down to whether its specific feature set matches your actual operating needs.
The 3100mAh battery is a genuine field advantage for long activations, and DMR support with up to 500,000 stored digital contacts makes it viable for operators working across large regional talk group networks. The 4,000-channel memory is generous for a handheld, giving ARES and EmComm operators room to store multiple codeplugs without compromise. That said, with TX power figures unconfirmed by the manufacturer and no IP rating, buyers doing serious field work in variable conditions should factor both unknowns into their decision.
At $299.00, the value proposition is middling at best. There is no water resistance, which limits utility in outdoor or emergency deployments where weather exposure is realistic. This radio suits operators who prioritize DMR digital access and contact storage over ruggedness or verified RF output; those needing a weather-resistant option should look elsewhere.

This is a very sophisticated device and not for beginners but it is best in class in terms of the many special features and capabilities that it has, and the value you get for your money compared to peers and other high-end manufacturers that make similar devices.
This is an awesome radio. I’ve got it set up for analog, DMR, and NXDN. Spent some time on a Code plug but works great. Only thing I noticed is it does not like to open my Hot spot if I’m too close to it, even on low power. Not sure if some settings I need to change or if it’s the radio. Came with a...
So far a really nice radio. Only time will tell
