Overview
The AT-5888UV is AnyTone's top-power analog mobile, rated at 50 watts on VHF and 40 on UHF with 758 memory channels. It supports cross-band repeat, four independent receive combinations (UU, UV, VU, VV) for monitoring two bands and two channels at once, and a remote-mountable faceplate for flush or under-dash installs. It also tunes in airband, marine and PMR frequencies for wideband listening beyond the ham bands.
Fifty watts is the ceiling for a mobile of this size, but it is worth remembering that wattage buys margin, not range. A 50W radio on a car roof with a mediocre antenna will not out-hear a 5W handheld held at the same height; what the extra power does is punch through foliage and hold a signal at the edge of a repeater's coverage. At 4.3 stars across 337 ratings, it holds up well, and CHIRP support makes programming the 758 channels manageable.
