ABBREE GMRS 42.5-inch Tactical (SMA-Female) vs TIDRADIO TD-771 GMRS (SMA-Female)

The TD-771 is the clear winner for GMRS use.

The fundamental difference is electrical length. The TD-771's 0.60 wavelength design delivers realistic 3.0 dBi performance, while the ABBREE's multi-wavelength design at 1.68 wavelengths produces realistic performance around -1.0 dBi. This is a massive 4 dB disadvantage for the ABBREE, making it objectively worse on the radio despite costing $2 more. Compounding this, ABBREE overstates its gain claim by about 6 dB, calling -1.0 dBi performance "5 dBi" on the box.

The TD-771's 385 mm length is optimal for handheld GMRS radios, providing good gain without requiring a ground plane. The ABBREE's longer 1080 mm design doesn't improve performance due to its electrical characteristics; length alone doesn't help when the wavelength ratio is wrong.

The TD-771 user gets better real-world performance at a lower price and gets accurate specs. Buy the ABBREE only if you need the 42-inch folding form factor for backpacking, but understand you're accepting inferior antenna performance as a tradeoff.

Get the TD-771 for GMRS. It's cheaper, honest about what it does, and actually does it better.
