ABBREE
ABBREE GMRS 42.5-inch Tactical (SMA-Female)
This is a durable folding whip, not a high-gain one. A shorter, roughly half-wave GMRS antenna will out-perform it on actual range, so buy this for the hinge and the length only if you specifically want a tactical look.
Proprietary RR score
How we scored it
Performance is derived from the antenna's length in wavelengths on each band it covers, not from the advertised gain. How we score →
Length versus wavelength
What 1080 mm Buys You
An antenna radiates according to its length measured in wavelengths, not according to the number on the packaging. Here is where this one lands on each band it covers.
| Band | Wavelength | This antenna | Works out as |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMRS465 MHz | 645 mm | 1.68 λ | multi-wavelength |
On the advertised gain. This listing claims 5 dBi. An element of 1080 mm can support roughly -1 dBi on its best band, so the claim runs about 6 dB ahead of what the dimensions allow.
Vendors quote peak figures under favourable assumptions and often copy a supplier's number, so treat this as a reason to ignore the gain figure rather than to distrust the antenna.

Is this antenna right for you?
Yes, if you're…
- ✓Buyers who specifically want a rugged, foldable long whip and accept it will not out-perform a shorter one
Skip it, if you're…
- ✕Anyone chasing maximum GMRS range per inch

Tradeoffs
The good and the bad
What we like
- Folding hinge survives packs and car doors
- Cheap for its size
- Well reviewed for build quality
What we don't
- Length is well past the point where it helps on GMRS, gain does not scale with size here
- The 5 dBi claim is far beyond what this length can produce
- Long and awkward for everyday carry

Overview
The ABBREE GMRS Tactical is a 42.5-inch (1080mm) folding whip with an SMA-Female connector, built for GMRS handhelds like the Baofeng GM-15 Pro and Radioddity's GMRS line. It folds at a hinge to survive being tossed in a pack or bumped against a car door, and it costs about $12.
The trouble is length. On the GMRS band, 1080mm works out to roughly 1.6 to 1.7 wavelengths, well past the 0.625-wavelength point where a single-element whip stops gaining and the radiation pattern starts breaking into lobes. The model puts realistic gain around -1 dBi at this length, essentially the same as a stock antenna, not the 5 dBi the listing claims. A shorter GMRS whip in the 380-400mm range, closer to half wave, will actually out-perform this one despite looking far less impressive on the shelf. What you are really buying is a folding hinge for durability, not extra range.
