The TD-771 GMRS is the clear winner for GMRS use, but these antennas serve different purposes entirely and shouldn't be directly compared.

The critical difference is electrical length. The TD-771 operates at 0.60 wavelengths on GMRS, approaching the efficient 5/8-wave design that performs well without a ground plane. The NA-701 is electrically short on VHF at just 0.10 wavelengths, making it fundamentally compromised for 2-meter work regardless of claimed specs. On UHF, the NA-701 reaches quarter-wave and performs reasonably, but it's not optimized for either band. The TD-771's longer physical design gives it the electrical length needed for GMRS.

The NA-701 appeals to users wanting a compact dual-band option for handheld VHF/UHF radios where size matters more than peak performance. The TD-771 is purpose-built for GMRS and should be the only choice if GMRS is your primary use.

Buy the NA-701 only if you need VHF/UHF versatility in a short package and accept performance compromises. Buy the TD-771 if you operate GMRS on a handheld. For actual 2-meter performance, look elsewhere entirely.
