The Baofeng GT-5R is the clear winner here, and it's not particularly close. This is a straightforward value proposition where the cheaper radio substantially outperforms the more expensive alternative across measurable criteria.

The single most important differentiator is price-to-performance ratio. The GT-5R costs roughly one-ninth the price while delivering higher transmit power, CHIRP compatibility for easier programming, and a significantly better overall score. The Yaesu simply cannot justify its $190 price tag given these numbers.

The GT-5R suits budget-conscious operators who want a capable entry-level radio without gimmicks or unnecessary features. The FT-60R makes sense only for users with specific brand loyalty to Yaesu or those who value the radio's particular ergonomics and menu interface after hands-on testing, though the specs don't obviously support the premium.

For most amateur radio operators, the Baofeng GT-5R represents exceptional value.
