Baofeng Dual-Band Whip (SMA-Female) vs Retevis RHD-771 (SMA-Female)

The Retevis RHD-771 is the better choice by a narrow margin.

Both antennas are electrically identical. At 146 MHz on VHF, each is electrically short and will perform poorly. At 435 MHz on UHF, both achieve a realistic 2.9 dBi gain as 5/8 wave antennas. Neither antenna's claimed 2.15 dBi gain reflects its actual VHF performance, which is compromised by its electrical shortness on that band. The physical difference of 2 mm between them is immaterial.

The single most important differentiator is owner feedback. The RHD-771 has 919 Amazon reviews reporting 4.5 stars, while the Baofeng has 115 reviews at 4.6 stars. The larger review sample gives you better visibility into real-world experience with the RHD-771.

The Baofeng Dual-Band Whip is the choice if you want to spend the minimum and accept limited feedback on long-term performance. The Retevis RHD-771 is the better buy for most users seeking antenna data backed by substantially more owner reports, despite the modest three dollar premium.
