The AR-771C is the clear winner for GMRS-specific use. Both antennas are nearly identical physically and priced within a dollar of each other, but their electrical performance differs significantly where it matters.

The single most important differentiator is frequency coverage. The AR-771C is optimized for GMRS at 465 MHz, where it achieves a genuine 5/8-wave electrical length and realistic 3.1 dBi gain. The RHD-771 attempts to serve both VHF and UHF but compromises on both bands. At VHF it's electrically short at 0.19 wavelengths, delivering a realistic negative 1.0 dBi. At UHF it performs adequately but not better than the AR-771C performs at GMRS.

The RHD-771's claimed 2.15 dBi gain is overstated for VHF use, where the antenna is actually lossy. This dual-band compromise made sense for radios that operate both bands, but it's a design weakness when compared to a single-band specialist.
