ABBREE AR-771C GMRS (SMA-Female) vs Baofeng Dual-Band Whip (SMA-Female)

The AR-771C is the clear winner for GMRS-specific use. Both antennas are physically identical 389mm whips with the same connector, but they're optimized for different purposes, and that matters enormously.

The critical differentiator is electrical length on your intended band. The AR-771C is engineered as a 5/8-wave antenna at 465 MHz GMRS, delivering realistic performance around 3.1 dBi. The Baofeng dual-band whip attempts to serve both VHF and UHF, which means it's compromised on both. At VHF it's electrically short at 0.19 wavelengths, a fundamental limitation that no marketing can overcome. At UHF it approaches 5/8-wave, but this design choice reflects a trade-off, not optimization.

Both claim 2.15 dBi gain, but only the AR-771C's claim aligns with its electrical design. The Baofeng's VHF performance is realistically disadvantaged at minus 1.1 dBi despite what the box states.

Buy the AR-771C if you operate primarily on GMRS. Buy the Baofeng dual-band whip only if you genuinely need both VHF and UHF coverage on a single antenna and accept compromised performance on both bands. For dedicated GMRS work, the AR-771C offers better value at only two dollars more.
