ABBREE AR-771C GMRS (SMA-Female) vs HYS-771N Dual-Band Whip (SMA-Female)

The ABBREE AR-771C is the clear winner for GMRS use. Both are similarly sized flexible whips, but they're optimized for different purposes.

The critical difference is electrical length on your intended band. The ABBREE is purpose-built for GMRS at 465 MHz, where it operates at 5/8 wavelength with realistic gain around 3.1 dBi. The HYS dual-band design compromises both bands to serve them equally poorly. On VHF it's severely electrically short at 0.19 wavelengths, producing negative gain regardless of marketing claims. On UHF it matches the ABBREE at 5/8 wavelength but adds nothing by doing so while costing more than double.

The ABBREE's claimed 2.15 dBi aligns with its electrical length and is trustworthy. The HYS claims 2.5 dBi, which its VHF performance contradicts outright.

The ABBREE AR-771C should be your choice if GMRS is your priority. The HYS-771N makes sense only if you absolutely must cover both VHF and UHF equally, though you'll accept mediocre performance on both bands rather than excellence on one.

Buy the ABBREE for GMRS work where it delivers what the physics promise. Choose the HYS only if you need dual-band compromise.
