Overview
The UV-5G Mini takes the certified GMRS platform from the UV-5G Plus and shrinks it. The interesting part is in its FCC paperwork: alongside the Part 95E transmitter grant it carries a Part 15C entry covering 2402 to 2480 MHz, which is the Bluetooth radio its phone app uses. That is why it programs from a handset rather than requiring a cable and a Windows utility, and on a budget GMRS radio that is genuinely unusual.
It is small, so the battery and the speaker are small too, and a pocket radio will never match a full-size handheld on audio or endurance. Buy it for a glovebox, a jacket pocket, or a kid who will not carry anything larger. If you want the same certification with more radio around it, the Baofeng UV-5G Plus is the full-size sibling.
