Retevis RA89 vs Wouxun KG-UV9D Plus

The Retevis RA89 is the clear winner for budget-conscious buyers seeking a straightforward handheld radio.

The most important differentiator is price coupled with owner feedback. The RA89 costs $67 versus $180 for the Wouxun, and owners report a higher satisfaction rating on the RA89 (4.5/5 from 278 reviews versus 4.2/5 from 42 reviews). The RA89 also carries an IP68 rating, meaning it handles submersion; the Wouxun lists no IP rating. We do not have the RA89's transmit power specification, so we cannot directly compare output. Both radios lack DMR, APRS, and GPS. The Wouxun is slightly lighter at 250g, and it offers confirmed 5-watt transmission, which matters if you need that power level.

Buy the RA89 if you want reliable basic performance at a low price point with strong owner validation and waterproofing. Buy the Wouxun if you specifically need 5-watt transmission capability and are willing to pay the premium despite fewer owner reviews.

The RA89 represents better value for most users given the price difference, higher owner satisfaction, and weatherproofing.
