ABBREE
ABBREE 48.8-inch Foldable Tactical (SMA-Female)
Good on 2m, weak on 70cm, and awkward to carry either way. Only reach for this one if most of your traffic is on 2m.
Proprietary RR score
How we scored it
Performance is derived from the antenna's length in wavelengths on each band it covers, not from the advertised gain. How we score →
Length versus wavelength
What 1240 mm Buys You
An antenna radiates according to its length measured in wavelengths, not according to the number on the packaging. Here is where this one lands on each band it covers.
| Band | Wavelength | This antenna | Works out as |
|---|---|---|---|
| VHF146 MHz | 2053 mm | 0.60 λ | 5/8 wave |
| UHF435 MHz | 689 mm | 1.80 λ | multi-wavelength |
On the advertised gain. This listing claims 6 dBi. An element of 1240 mm can support roughly 3.1 dBi on its best band, so the claim runs about 2.9 dB ahead of what the dimensions allow.
Vendors quote peak figures under favourable assumptions and often copy a supplier's number, so treat this as a reason to ignore the gain figure rather than to distrust the antenna.
Decision helper
Is this antenna right for you?
Yes, if you're…
- ✓2m-focused operation such as simplex nets or VHF repeaters
- ✓Buyers who already have a dedicated 70cm antenna and want to add 2m reach
Skip it, if you're…
- ✕Balanced dual-band use
- ✕Compact or everyday carry
Tradeoffs
The good and the bad
What we like
- Genuinely good electrical length on 2m, near the practical maximum
- Folding hinge for durability
- Cheap for the length
What we don't
- 70cm performance collapses at this length; the pattern is well past useful
- The 6 dBi claim overstates even the good band
- Very poor to carry, the longest and most awkward whip here

Overview
The ABBREE 48.8-inch Foldable Tactical is the longest whip in this lineup at 1240mm, with a folding hinge and an SMA-Female connector. It covers both 2m and 70cm, is flexible enough to survive being bent in a pack, and costs around $12.
This is a length that helps on one band and hurts on the other. On 2m, 1240mm works out to about 0.60 wavelengths, squarely in the 5/8-wave range that is the best a single element does on a handheld, and the model predicts genuinely good gain there, around 3 dBi. On 70cm the same physical length is about 1.8 wavelengths, well past the point where the pattern holds together, so gain actually falls to roughly what a stock antenna gives you. The listing's 6 dBi claim is only believable on the 2m side, and overstates even that by a few dB. If you operate mostly on 2m this length pays off; if you split time evenly between bands, a shorter whip in the 380-480mm range will serve 70cm far better.
