Retevis RA79 vs Wouxun KG-UV6D Two Way Radio

The Retevis RA79 is the clear winner for budget-conscious operators.

The most important differentiator is price combined with user satisfaction. The RA79 costs $35 versus $106 for the Wouxun, and owners report significantly higher satisfaction at 4.5 stars across 278 reviews compared to the Wouxun's 4.0 stars from 158 reviews. Both radios lack DMR, APRS, and GPS, so feature parity is effectively matched. The Wouxun offers known 5W transmit power while the RA79's TX power is unlisted—we simply don't have that specification. The Wouxun is slightly heavier at 253g versus 225g, an inconsequential difference. The RA79 supports CHIRP programming while the Wouxun does not, which provides convenient frequency management.

The RA79 delivers better listed specs for the money, reflected in its 60/100 RadioRanked score versus the Wouxun's 40/100.

The Retevis RA79 suits anyone seeking an affordable entry-level handheld with strong owner satisfaction and CHIRP compatibility. The Wouxun suits operators who specifically require confirmed 5W output and can justify the three-fold price premium.
