Retevis HA1UV vs Retevis HD2

The Retevis HD2 is the clear winner for most users, despite its higher price point. The single most important differentiator is feature set: the HD2 includes DMR digital mode, APRS, and GPS functionality, making it significantly more versatile for modern amateur radio operations. The HA1UV is essentially a basic analog-only radio that offers nothing beyond fundamental VHF/UHF communication.

The HA1UV suits budget-conscious operators who need nothing more than simple FM repeater access and are willing to program via CHIRP. The HD2 is better for anyone wanting digital capabilities, location tracking, or future-proofing their investment.

That said, both radios have incomplete specifications (unknown TX power and weight), which is frustrating. The HD2's modest overall score improvement from 69 to 63 seems questionable given its dramatically superior feature list. If your priority is basic analog simplex and repeater use on a tight budget, the HA1UV works. Otherwise, spend the extra money on the HD2. The feature gap justifies the price difference for most amateur radio applications.
