Overview
The HYS TC-YG08 is a directional Yagi with 8 elements across a roughly 41-inch boom, covering both 2m and 70cm through one SO-239 connector. It ships with a U-bolt bracket for a mast and handles up to 100 watts. HYS rates it at 9.5 dBi on 2m and 11.5 dBi on 70cm.
We do not score this antenna. Our model measures a single radiator's electrical length, which works for an omnidirectional whip but says nothing about a beam, where gain comes from element count and boom spacing rather than one element's length. Judged on those terms, an 8-element design on a 41-inch boom is a legitimate mid-size Yagi. What it will not do is replace an omnidirectional antenna: point it at one repeater or a specific distant station and it will outperform anything else here in that direction, at the cost of hearing nothing behind it.
