Overview
The HYS dual-band mag mount is a 17.1-inch stainless whip on a 3.5-inch magnetic base, rated for 50 watts, with a PL-259 connector for any SO-239-fed mobile radio. HYS is explicit that the magnetic base needs a metal ground plane to work, which is honest labeling most sellers skip.
At 0.21 wavelengths on 2m and 0.63 on 70cm, near the 5/8-wave sweet spot, HYS's claimed 2.15/3.5 dBi is actually a little conservative next to what our model credits the length with. Just do not skip the fine print: without a metal roof or a large enough metal panel under the base, none of this performs as modeled, magnetic or not.
